What is the recommended session length?

Sessions range from 80 to 110 minutes. Traditionally, a Thai Massage session is 120 Minutes – this gives ample time for addressing the entire body. For Integrative Massage sessions, 80 minutes is recommended to address any specific issues that are discussed and 110 min treatments tend to be most effective in addressing all areas of the body while resulting in long lasting effects post session.

What should I wear?

Integrative Massage sessions generally require removing of all clothing or removing as much clothing that you are comfortable with. If it is your first massage and you do not feel comfortable getting completely un-clothed you are welcome to leave/remove what ever allows you to be comfortable and able to have an enjoyable experience. During these sessions an organic non-toxic oil application is used to assist with manipulation of muscle tissue so it’s recommended to at least remove the layer of clothing that is in your problem area to be worked on. Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is performed fully clothed on the ground (on a large cushioned mat). Please wear something comfortable and free from snaps, zippers, or buttons. You may also want to bring warm layers in case you get cold during these type of sessions.

What is a typical Traditional Thai Yoga Massage like?

Key Elements of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage:

  1. Sen Energy Lines: Drawing inspiration from the Indian energy system, Thai Yoga Massage focuses on the ten major energy lines (Sen) that run through the body. By applying pressure and stretching along these lines, the therapist facilitates the smooth flow of energy, promoting balance and vitality.

  2. Assisted Yoga Poses: Imagine experiencing the benefits of yoga without having to actively participate. You’ll be guided through a series of passive yoga stretches and poses, enhancing flexibility and releasing tension from muscles and joints.

  3. Acupressure: Incorporating acupressure techniques, rhythmic pressure is applied to specific points along the energy lines, encouraging the release of blockages and promoting a deep sense of relaxation.

  4. Metta (Loving-kindness): Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, Thai Yoga Massage is infused with the spirit of Metta. This loving and compassionate touch creates a safe and nurturing space, fostering a connection between body, mind, and spirit.

Benefits of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage:

  • Improved Flexibility: Experience a newfound freedom of movement as the massage gently stretches and lengthens your muscles.

  • Stress Relief: The rhythmic pressure and meditative qualities of the massage induce a state of deep relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety.

  • Enhanced Energy Flow: Unblock stagnant energy, revitalize your body's natural flow, and awaken a sense of inner harmony.

  • Pain Relief: Targeted pressure and stretches can alleviate muscular tension, providing relief from chronic pain and discomfort.

What is a typical Integrative Massage like?

Integrative Massage Sessions incorporate a holistic approach of western/eastern massage techniques and are performed unclothed on a massage table. The client is covered with a sheet and a blanket while the therapist un-drapes (uncovers) the areas they are working on, one body part at a time. Gliding, kneading, tapping, stretching, and cross-friction strokes are incorporated combined with slower, focused strokes with more pressure, targeting deeper muscle groups and freeing previously dense, hardened areas, relieving pain usually due to a lack of fluid exchange and energy flow. Techniques assist with softening and revitalizing these areas. Other techniques may be incorporated (Thai, acupressure, Reiki, reflexology, shiatsu, trigger-point, etc.).

What should I do after my session?

I recommend that you take a little time to integrate your experience if possible. Definitely drink plenty of water. Sometimes, toxins that have been stored in the body may be released to the bloodstream and circulate through the body before being removed through the liver or kidneys. This cleansing process may cause one to have a headache or stomach ache or feel weak within 24 hours of the session.

Take a long walk through the park. Enjoy a warm cup of tea. Journal. Meditate. Take a hot shower or bath. Nourish your body with healthy foods, all of these things can assist and prevent any potential detoxification effects if they present themselves.

My intention with offering these body therapies is to gently nudge you onto a path of self-care and love, so offer yourself the gift of relaxation, quiet, and full presence.

Suggested frequency of Massage and Bodywork

This will really depend on the person and their condition. In general, Massage & Body Therapy are not a one-time fix, especially if you have any ongoing circumstances. Most people find it difficult to remember good self-care, especially when they are stressed.

  • PROBLEM SPECIFIC: If you need focused work done for an acute pain, bodywork every 1 to 2 weeks will help you make progress quickly.

  • REGULAR SELF-CARE: Bodywork once per month or so will help keep yourself in optimal shape (along with balanced diet, exercise, & lifestyle habits).

  • CHRONIC CONDITIONS: If you want to address an ongoing issue and make quick progress, you might benefit from a weekly body therapy session for a couple months, depending on the issue.

These recommendations are generalizations and can change for each individuals needs after an assessment is made with a therapist.
